Tuscaloosa, AL – A Tuscaloosa City Council member says he pleaded guilty to drug charges and is entering a yearlong program to bring an end to an experience he calls a ``nightmare.''
The 56-year-old Kip Tyner will avoid having a conviction on his record if he successfully completes the court-monitored program.
Court records show Tyner and another man were arrested Dec. 3 at an apartment where officers say they found crack cocaine and crack pipes. He was released on bond and remains on the City Council.
Tyner says in a statement he pleaded guilty to put the ordeal behind him. He says he wants to focus on rebuilding Tuscaloosa from the April tornado.
Tyner says he's made mistakes, but he promises he is not on drugs.
