Second Alabama man found dead in floodwaters after statewide heavy rain

Associated Press

The Madison County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death of a Hazel Green man on Sunday after many parts of Alabama experienced heavy rainfall.

Johnny Henderson III was pronounced dead on the scene after his body was found in the floodwaters by emergency workers.

Henderson’s family says that the man was playing with his children in the backyard. A ditch had flooded from the rain and Henderson and his son were playing in the water with a kayak when the current picked up and swept them both away.

According to a family member, Henderson was able to get his son to safety before disappearing in the water.

This report comes after another man was found dead in Tuscaloosa on the same day, having reportedly drowned after his vehicle was overwhelmed by floodwaters.
