Decatur Teen To Be Tried As Adult

By Associated Press

Decatur AL – A judge has ruled that a 14-year-old Decatur boy will stand trial as an adult on attempted murder charges in the April 25 shooting of a 17-year-old boy over an alleged insult.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Corley says Morgan County District Judge Shelly Slate Waters declared Miguel Valladares an adult during a hearing Wednesday.

Valladares has been held at a juvenile detention center in Tuscumbia, but authorities moved him to Morgan County Jail after the judge ruled, then released him on a $25,000 bond to await trial.

According to police, the two teens were sitting in a truck when the victim was shot twice in the head for allegedly insulting Valladares' relative. Police have not identified the victim.
