Two Dead In Small Plane Crash Near Huntsville

Huntsville, AL – Two people died Tuesday afternoon in a small plane crash near the Moontown Airport in eastern Madison County.

Madison County sheriff's officials said the crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. in a field just off Lawler Road, sparking a fire in the field that threatened some nearby homes before being extinguished.

The small Cessna plane was crumpled, with its outer skin burned mostly away. Names of the crash victims were not immediately released.

Sheriff's Investigator Chad Brooks said the Federal Aviation Administration has been called to investigate the crash and the sheriff's office will assist.
