House OKs Special Tags For Gold Star Families

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama House has passed a bill to allow family members of military personnel killed in the line of duty to buy special car tags.

The House voted 95-0 Thursday for the bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Paul DeMarco of Homewood that allows the sale of special tags for Gold Star families. That's a designation used to refer to the families of service members killed in the line of duty.

House members gave a loud standing ovation to family members of military troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The family members were in the House gallery when the bill passed.

The tag features the traditional symbol for a military fallen hero - a rifle sticking out of a helmet.

The bill now goes to the Senate.
