Washington, D.C. – Former White House adviser Karl Rove has repeated his denials that he was involved in the federal prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman. This time his answers were given under threat of criminal prosecution if he lied.
Rove told congressional investigators last month that he did not have any communications with federal prosecutors or anyone else about Siegelman's prosecution leading up to the governor's 2005 indictment on bribery-related charges. He said he generally learned of developments in the case after they were publicly announced.
The House Judiciary Committee released a transcript of his statements on Tuesday. Democrats on the committee have been investigating whether Rove and others in the Bush administration used political motivations to fire federal prosecutors and influence prosecutions.
