Byrne, Bentley On Road As Runoff Campaign Ends

Montgomery, AL – Bradley Byrne said he received the endorsement of many top Republicans because his opponent in Tuesday's runoff for governor, Robert Bentley, is more of a Democrat than a Republican.

At a campaign stop Monday in Montgomery, Byrne said the governor, three congressmen and several other top Republicans are supporting him because he would fight to end the dominance of the Alabama Education Association.

Both candidates were campaigning around Alabama Monday on the eve of Tuesday's GOP runoff for governor. In Birmingham, Bentley described himself as the ``true conservative'' in the race. He said the endorsement of Byrne by some of the state's top Republicans shows Byrne is the candidate of the status quo.
