Ala. Sets Annual Sales Tax Holiday For Aug. 6-8

Mobile, AL – Back-to-school shoppers will get a tax break on many items in Alabama if they do their shopping during the period of Aug. 6-8.

That's when the state's sales tax holiday will be in effect this year.

It's the holiday's fifth year in Alabama, and it waives sales tax from store items such as clothing, school supplies and uniforms.

Some shoppers say they don't want to wait that long and prefer to take advantage of greater selection while shopping earlier.

A spokeswoman at a Target store in Mobile says many shoppers pick up school supplies during the tax holiday.

Not all Alabama cities are participating in the holiday.
