State Won't Let Ala. Pharmacy Reopen Amid Probe

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Board of Pharmacy says it won't let a medical company reopen until an investigation is complete into tainted intravenous feeding materials linked to its Birmingham laboratory.

Meds IV voluntarily shut down its operations under an agreement with health regulators, and a lawyer for the state agency says board members won't let it resume business until a complete review is finished.

Board attorney Jim Ward says that investigation includes last week's seizure of company records by the Food and Drug Administration.

Officials say nine people died and 10 more were sickened after receiving intravenous feeding bags produced by Meds IV. Officials have found the same type of bacteria that caused infections inside the company's lab, but they're awaiting test results to see if the organisms are an exact match.
