Gypsy Jazz in Mobile AL

Gypsy Jazz in Mobile AL

We will be performing some Django style music , Parisian swing, classic Nola trad jazz and Latin jazz, both covers and originals.

Raphael Bas (Guitar and harmonica)
Raphaël Bas grew up in Bourges, France where over the years he was exposed to a wide variety of music and artistic styles performed by world class musicians at the renowned Printemps de Bourges music festival where he first played at age 15.
Raphaël currently lives and works in New Orleans where he pursues his musical vocation, playing French gypsy swing while incorporating the sound of New Orleans trad jazz into his repertoire. Raphael performs under his own name and with his band, Harmonouche. Since immigrating to the United States over two decades ago, Raphael has played many genres including Blues, Flamenco, Funk, Reggae, and various types of Jazz
His major musical influences are Django Reinhardt, Manitas De Plata and Paco De Lucia, but he has also been influenced by Gus Viseur's and Jo Privat's Swing and Musette styles. These influences are heard in his music, particularly in the intricately interwoven guitar parts he plays.

Belinda Moody (bassist):
Born in Brisbane, Australia 1966, have lived and played music professionally in Amsterdam, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan, and for the last 15 years, in the USA.
Performed with Teruamsa Hino, James Moody, Ernie Watts, Luluk Purwanto and Carmen Bradford remain career highlights. Toured through Italy, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, France, Australia and Indonesia and appearances at the Jakarta Jazz Festival, Singapore Jazz Festival, Malaysia Jazz Festival and Bangkok Jazz Festival and jazz clubs throughout Southeast Asia.
Graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts (1985-1988) Diploma in Jazz Studies .
Performing original music is a passion. Writing projects have included music for the OXFAM documentary film 'The Sacred Stones' in 2001 and Epic Whispers (string quartet, jazz trio & 3 vocalists) commissioned by the Melbourne Women’s Jazz Festival in 2005. Composition is an enduring interest that ignites my connection with performing.
Home is now New Orleans, the architectural streetscape, the music, the serious pursuit of celebration, what's come before us, all so alive and commingled here.
