DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — Police in Alabama say two people stole four cats from an Alabama shelter and freed nine other cats, each valued at $95.
The Dothan Eagle reports 18-year-olds Sheleah Nalita Sheppard and Dylan Ryan Harvell were arrested Sunday and charged with third-degree theft. Dothan Police Lt. Lynn Watkins says the two entered the Wiregrass Humane Society this month, stole and freed the cats and later tried to return the four cats they had taken.
Police didn't immediately release a motive or say why the teens tried to return the cats. Watkins says the loosed cats haven't been recovered at this time.
It's unclear if Sheppard or Harvell have a lawyer. Sheppard has since posted bail and been released from custody.
