Court blocks Alabama city from approving processing plant

chickens

The building of a chicken plant in Gadsden has been blocked by a judge.

The proposed Pilgrim's Pride Corps. facility would receive daily truckloads of dead chickens to be processed.

Community members who oppose the proposal said the plant would be a smelly, dangerous nuisance. An Etowah County judge agreed with critics and issued an injunction on Monday to stop the development of the project.

A trial will take place in July when it will be decided whether the ban will remain or construction can start.
