AIDS Funding on the Ground in Nigeria

Hundreds of millions of dollars in help for AIDS are now pouring into Nigeria and other developing countries. In Nigeria, Dr. Abdulsalim Nasidi has become the most-wanted man around, because he's the one through which all the money flows.

Nasidi is trying to build whole new health systems where none exist. Money from President Bush's AIDS plan must be spent primarily on U.S. staff and products. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, set up by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, wants communities to have more of a say in how the money is spent. NPR's Brenda Wilson reports.
