Washington, DC – Richard Scrushy faces an 85 count indictment for is involvement in HealthSouth's fraudulent accounting practices. The indictment was announced in Washington this morning, and Scrushy surrendered himself at F-B-I headquarters in Birmingham. He's charged with conspiracy, mail, wire and securities fraud, making false statements and certifications and money laundering. The indictment also seeks forfeiture of more than 278 million dollars worth of property prosecutors say Scrushy purchased with money that was illegally earned. Those items include several residences, boats, aircraft and automobiles. If he's convicted on all the charges, Scrushy could face a maximum sentence of 650 years in prison and more than 36 million dollars in fines.
