Historic Prattville Church In Line For Improvements

By Alabama Public Radio

Parttville, AL – A 160-year-old Prattville church built by city founder Daniel Pratt is in line for 200-thousand-dollars in federal funds for repairs.
The funds for renovations and improvements to the Ward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church were placed in a bill that still awaits final approval from President Bush. Part of the money will used to repair extensive damage to the roof and windows of the old church.
Local historians say the original building was used as a church and school, serving the black community until it burned in 1902. The present building was built around 1891, and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
