First Lady to Visit Alabama Wednesday

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Alabama is considered a Republican lock in this year's presidential election. But, it hasn't stopped national Republicans from raising money in the state. First lady Laura Bush will be in Alabama Wednesday to raise campaign funds. She'll speak at a 500-dollar-per-person luncheon in Birmingham. Her address will help Victory 2004, a Republican fund to promote party candidates. However, before her speech, Mrs. Bush will look at a state reading program for elementary school students. She'll visit Hueytown Elementary for a round-table discussion to promote literacy.
