Judge Won't Step Down from Siegelman Case

By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa, AL – U-S District Judge U-W- Clemon will continue to hear the criminal case against former Governor Don Siegelman. Prosecutors wanted Clemon to step down from the case. They said one of his daughters legally represented several state agencies while Siegelman was governor. They also said he was biased against the government for a previous investigation of another daughter. But Clemon cited a court decision that says such claims must be supported by facts, and he rejected the prosecutors' request. Clemon is the fourth judge assigned to the case. The other three stepped down after citing impartiality issues.
