Funeral for Alabama Soldier

Guntersville, AL – Funeral services for an Alabama soldier are set for Friday afternoon. Army Staff Sergeant Robert C- Thornton Junior died August 23rd when his patrol in Baghdad was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the First Squadron, Seventh Cavalry Regiment of the First Cavalry Division. It's based in Fort Hood, Texas. Thornton was 35 years old. Visitation will be held Thursday at 6 p-m at the Guntersville Memorial Chapel. A memorial service and burial will be Friday at 1 p-m at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Guntersville.
