Federal Judge Opens Some Documents, Leaves Others Closed in Scrushy Case

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A federal judge has agreed to unseal some documents in the criminal case against former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. Judge Karon Bowdre said Tuesday that a review found some papers in the high-profile case that should be open to the public, but she also ruled that other documents must remain sealed in the interest of justice and a fair trial. The judge also ruled that information about Scrushy's personal assets should remain private. Bowdre also rejected a request that both prosecutors and the defense be required to file motions describing the substance of documents they want kept from public view.
