Computer Glitch Means No New Drivers' Licenses

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A computer glitch has forced staff workers with the Alabama Department of Public Safety to shut down the system. That means you won't be able to get a driver's license until the end of the week. A statement Monday from the department's Driver License Division said workers are trying to correct the problem, and they plan to have the machines back on line by Friday. Again, the temporary shutdown means NO driver's licenses can be issued. Other areas, however, are unaffected. License reinstatement services, copies of drivers' records and accident reports are still available to the public.
