Mobile Students To Be Tested For TB

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Mobile County Health Department officials say they'll test about 60 students at two middle schools for tuberculosis. Health officials say the children at Mae Eanes and Semmes Middle Schools will receive skin tests next week for "tb" because one child at each school had a suspected case of the disease. The suspected cases are reportedly unrelated to one another. Tuberculosis usually attacks the lungs, and a skin test reveals whether a person has been infected. A person can contract the infection but never develop the disease. The Health Department has sent a letter to parents of the children who need to be tested, asking for their permission.
