Juror Excused from Scrushy Case

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – There is one less juror hearing the case against former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy. Federal Judge Karon Bowdre excused a female juror because she continues to be sick. The judge said the trial was delayed last week because of the same woman. Testimony also continued Monday in the case. Defense attorney Jim Parkman tried to discredit the testimony of Weston Smith. Smith is the fifth former HealthSouth finance chief to testify against Scrushy. Defense attorneys tried to convince jurors that Smith became a prosecution witness to save his wife Susan, who was a senior executive at HealthSouth.
