Music Industry Sues Alabamians

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Several Alabamians are facing the wrath of the music industry. The Recording Industry Association of America has filed suit against 24 individuals on behalf of member companies, accusing them along with about 10,000 others nationwide of using the Internet to download copyright recordings without paying for them. Penalties could run between $750 and $30,000 for each song illegally downloaded on a person's computer. A spokesperson for the industry group says six of the lawsuits filed in Alabama have already been settled.
