Lawmakers Ask Residents to Boycott Aruba

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama House has passed a resolution asking state residents to stay away from Aruba. An Alabama teenager disappeared while visiting there on a high school graduation trip. So far, her whereabouts are unknown, and an ongoing murder case has taken several turns. The House resolution expresses concern that no one has been charged publicly. Representative Leslie Vance sponsored the resolution. He says he hopes the threat of losing tourist money will encourage Aruban officials to speed up the investigation. The resolution is not binding and Alabama residents can still travel to Aruba if they want.
