Bush Visits Mobile, Gulf Coast

Mobile, AL – President Bush arrived in Mobile Friday morning to begin touring Gulf Coast devastation from Hurricane Katrina. Governor Bob Riley and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour spoke with the president about needs in both states. Riley told the president about the damage Bayou La Batre and Dauphin Island suffered. He also briefed the president about "Operation Golden Rule," the governor's initiative to find housing for storm victims from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. F-E-M-A director Michael Brown, Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff and Coast Guard officials also were present at the meeting.
