Montgomery, AL – A new poll from the Associated Press and Ipsos shows a drop in public confidence in the federal government's ability to oversee the Hurricane Katrina recovery. The poll shows 6-in-10 people have no confidence that billions of dollars in relief money will be well spent. Among the perceived federal missteps hurting public opinion were a debit-card plan that was scuttled almost as soon as it began ... and, a 236 million dollar plan with Carnival cruise lines to house evacuees that few people are using. Also, Congress has begun pushing to reverse a number of no-bid contracts. However, the poll also shows that about half support the 150 billion dollar price tag that's been put on recovery efforts.
