Mobile, AL – The poll by the Mobile Register and the University of South Alabama found that 44 percent of respondents believe that Siegelman, a Democrat, should quit the 2006 governor's race, while 42 percent believe he should stay in the race. Only 20 percent of those polled said they believe the former governor would be found guilty by a jury if his case goes to trial. Siegelman has blasted the charges as politically motivated and has said he intends to remain on the ballot for the June 6th Democratic primary. The poll was published Sunday and was a telephone survey last week of 400 adult Alabama residents, with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 5 percentage points.
