Prosecutor Wants Oil Exec to Plead in Court

By Alabama Public Radio

Aliceville, AL – Sumter County District Attorney Greg Griggers wants Jason McBride to plead guilty in court. McBride has paid a ten-thousand dollar fine for price gouging at gas stations. He's an executive with McBride Oil Company, which is based in Aliceville. He was accused of charging an extra 20 cents a gallon at two stations just after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. A grand jury indicted McBride in late September, and he pleaded not guilty. He later paid his fine, and his attorney says the matter should now be closed. But District Attorney Griggers says McBride committed a crime and should plead guilty in circuit court. Sumter County Circuit Judge Eddie Hardaway Junior says he'll review the case and make a decision.
