Undated – Two public schools in Alabama have been honored as among the best in the country. Alba Elementary School in Bayou La Batre and Banks Elementary in Birmingham are among 52 schools nationwide to earn distinguished recognition. It comes from the National Association of State Title One Directors. Alba and Banks elementary schools receive Title One funding because most of their children are from low-income families. However, the schools are being recognized for their outstanding test scores. They'll receive their awards from first lady Laura Bush next month in Dallas.
