Fort Payne, AL – The DeKalb County man who ran over a gas station owner while trying to steal gas has been sentenced to five years in prison. Alvin Dwight Benefield pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was trying to drive off with 52 dollars worth of gas when station owner Husain "Tony" Caddi grabbed onto the car as it sped away. He fell off and was run over. The judge actually sentenced Benefield to a 20-year sentence, but it was split so Benefield will serve five years in prison followed by five years of probation. District Attorney Mike O'Dell says the Caddi family is satisfied with the plea agreement.
