Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama was one of the first seven states in the country to register more than 20 percent of its population as obese. The numbers are based on 1998 figures from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Numbers from 2005 show Alabama ranks second behind Mississippi as the nation's fattest state.
