Montgomery, AL – Scrushy and Roberts have asked a federal judge to have separate trials for them rather than trying them with Siegelman and Paul Hamrick in a single trial. Scrushy and Roberts served in Siegelman's Cabinet and Hamrick is his former chief of staff. Lawyers for Scrushy and Roberts say their clients are not mentioned in many of the activities described in the indictment, but fear the jury might confuse the evidence and let it spill over against their clients. US District Judge Mark Fuller of Montgomery will meet with lawyers in the case on January 20th to discuss pending motions and a possible trial date. A federal grand jury indicted the four in October on government corruption charges.
