Judge Hears Arguments Over Video Machines

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Jefferson County Circuit Judge Scott Vowell heard arguments Tuesday concerning a new effort at a local dog track. Milton McGregor wants to operate what he calls a new video sweepstakes promotion. But the Jefferson County sheriff's office took the machines last month, saying they are illegal. About 300 machines have been returned, but the judge is prohibiting McGregor from using them until all legal questions are answered. McGregor's attorney says the attorney general's office approved the machines, but a deputy attorney general denies that.
