Senate Passes Bill to Limit Keg Sales

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Did you know lawmakers are considering a bill that would outlaw the sale of draft beer in kegs? Specifically, it would ban stores from selling kegs of five gallons or more to individuals. The proposal passed the Senate Tuesday and is now on its way to the House. And, the Alabama Wholesale Beer Association is supporting the bill. Executive director Donna Alexander says the beer industry wants its product to be used responsibly by people who are of legal age. Senator Bobby Singleton says he proposed the bill to prevent teenagers from having keg parties. The proposal still would allow draft beer to be served in restaurants and bars in the 24 counties that allow draft beer.
