By Alabama Public Radio

Phenix City, AL – Sheriff Tommy Boswell says the two waived extradition and were immediately taken to the Russell County Jail in Phenix City. They escaped early Saturday after overpowering three guards. One corrections officer suffered multiple stab wounds, but he is expected to recover. A third murder suspect, Brent Martin, got out with Jones and Benton but was quickly recaptured by officers. Boswell says charges are pending against Jones and Benton.
