Rewards for Church Fires Information

By Alabama Public Radio

Brierfield, AL – There are now about 10-thousand dollars worth of rewards for information about last week's church fires in Bibb County. Three rural churches were destroyed and two were damaged early Friday morning. Investigators say the fires were set intentionally. Governor Bob Riley says the state is offering a five thousand dollar reward, and so is the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Riley says it's a top priority to find out who is responsible for the fires, and he says about 100 local, state and federal investigators are assigned to the case. Jim Cavanaugh, the regional director of the A-T-F, says it's obvious that the fires were arson, even though that may not be the official designation just yet.
