Bill Would Strengthen Child Restraint Law

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A coalition is asking lawmakers to approve a bill that would strengthen the state's child restraint law. It currently requires children aged four and under to sit in car seats and children under the age of six to be in some type of restraint. The new bill is pending in the state Senate. It would also require children less than a year old or weighing less than 20 pounds to sit in rear-facing car seats. Linda Tilley, executive director of VOICES for Alabama Children, says she believes strengthening the law would save lives.
