Alabama Soldier Killed in Iraq

Greenhill, AL – Marine Corporal Matthew Conley was killed Sunday in Iraq. He was from the Greenhill community near Florence. He died Sunday when his Humvee hit an improvised explosive device. He was 21 years old. Conley graduated from Rogers High School in 2002, where he was the football team's quarterback. He became a squad leader for the 37th Weaponry Division of the U-S- Marine Corps and was stationed at 29 Palms, California. He had been in Iraq since September. His father says Conley was scheduled to return home next month. Conley's body is scheduled to be flown back to the United States this week.
