Alabama Speakers Address U.N.

New York, NY – The United Nations Black History Month Program in New York City will feature three Alabamians today. Johnnie Carr is a Civil Rights veteran from Montgomery. She helped organize the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott and was a close friend of Martin Luther King Junior and Rosa Parks. John Knight, also of Montgomery, was among the first African Americans elected to the Montgomery County Commission. He also helped organize the boycott's recent 50th anniversary celebration. Kenneth Mullinax of Birmingham also will speak. He's a civil rights historian.
