Jefferson County Confused About Investigation

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Jefferson County officials say they are confused about an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency. The E-P-A is looking at whether Jefferson County polluted area waterways with raw sewage. The E-P-A has requested records from the Village Creek, Trussville, Leeds and Cahaba wastewater treatment plants. But Jefferson County officials say they haven't reported discharging any sewage from those plants. However, they say they'll cooperate with the investigation. The county recently spent more than one billion dollars on new wastewater treatment facilities.
