Shorter, AL – Last week was a good week for Alabama and the future of alternative fuels. President Bush has initiated a plan to reduce the country's dependence on foreign oil. He says ethanol would be a viable alternative. Auburn University hosted a demonstration Thursday of what's being called bioenergy technology. Switchgrass can be converted into ethanol, and Auburn has been experimenting with it at a research facility in Shorter. U-S Assistant Secretary of Energy Douglas Faulkner was among those attending. U-S Senator Jeff Sessions also attended, and he spoke with Alabama Public Radio's Butler Cain shortly before arriving.
