Tuscaloosa, AL – The North Carolina retailer Family Dollar says it will appeal a 19 million dollar judgment against it. A federal jury in Tuscaloosa decided last week the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees sued Family Dollar, saying managers were given hourly employee duties but couldn't collect overtime because they were classified as managers. A judge could decide to double the judgment to 38 million dollars if the judge determines Family Dollar intentionally classified its employees as managers to avoid paying them overtime.
