Lawyers Say Scrushy Shouldn't Repay All Bonuses

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Attorneys for former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy have filed another motion saying Scrushy doesn't have the money to repay nearly 48 million dollars in bonuses. A Jefferson County circuit judge ordered Scrushy to repay the bonuses he received during HealthSouth's accounting scandal. But his lawyers say some of the bonuses were not tied to HealthSouth's financial performance. His attorneys also say at least one of Scrushy's bonuses was awarded before the accounting fraud occurred. The repayment order is on hold while Scrushy's attorneys appeal it.
