Arson Suspects Await Court Date

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A federal judge in Birmingham has ordered Benjamin Nathan Moseley, Russell Lee DeBusk, Junior and Matthew Lee Cloyd to be kept in custody until a hearing tomorrow. The young men were arrested yesterday on charges of burning nine rural Baptist churches last month. Moseley and DeBusk are 19 years old and were students at Birmingham Southern College. Doctor David Pollick, president of Birmingham Southern, released a statement saying Moseley and DeBusk have been suspended and banned from campus while awaiting further action from authorities. Cloyd is a 20-year-old student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The three men are facing charges of arson and conspiracy to commit arson. However, they have not yet been indicted, and the charges could change.
