Hurricane Aid Still Available

By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa, AL – Two billion dollars in unclaimed federal disaster aid still awaits evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. Back in September, Congress approved a block grant program to help Gulf Coast families. The money is available to evacuees from all economic categories. Only eleven states have made requests totaling about 25 million dollars. Meanwhile, even if you're not an evacuee, it's still not too late to register for state and federal disaster assistance if you suffered damage from Hurricane Katrina. Aid is available through financial assistance, and low interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses. The deadline to register is tomorrow. You can register by phone by calling ... 800-621-FEMA. Line are open from 5 am until 11 pm today and tomorrow. You can also register online at FEMA ... dot ... G-O-V.
