Review Shows Customers Using More Gas

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A review of about a thousand natural gas bills suggests customers are paying more because they are using more gas -- not because companies are over billing them. The Public Service Commission asked for the review after residents complained their gas bills have gone up as much as 300 percent since last year. Natural gas section Chief Robert Reed and two others spent about a month reviewing 100 bills from Mobile Gas Company and 900 bills from Alabama Gas Company. But an attorney for Commissioner George Wallace Junior says the issue isn't about over billing. It's whether the companies are properly charging for their costs.
