March from Mobile to New Orleans Begins Today

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A 140 mile march from Mobile to New Orleans will begin today. The Mobile Chapter of Veterans for Peace organized it to protest the war in Iraq and the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina's victims. Chapter president Paul Robinson says he expects 300 people to participate. He says veterans, their families and hurricane survivors want the war in Iraq to end and they want more funding for hurricane relief efforts. It's being called the "Walkin' to New Orleans" march. The group is expected to get to New Orleans on Saturday.
