AEMC Appointments Still Being Debated

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – The state Senate will wait until at least Tuesday before confirming four appointments to the state Environmental Management Commission. John Lester, a veterinarian from Enterprise ... and Sam Wainwright, an engineer from Dothan, have been asked to serve another term. Montgomery attorney Anita Archie and Auburn veterinarian Laurel Gardner have been appointed to replace Riley Boykin Smith of Mobile and Pat Byington of Birmingham. The Senate was to confirm those positions yesterday, but some lawmakers say they wanted time to discuss the matter with their constituents amid concerns about some of the candidates' qualifications. Senator Ted Little says it's a matter of honor. Alabama Rivers Alliance executive director Adam Snyder says the delay allows more time to discuss the issue.
