Unborn Child Bill Moves On

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – The Legislature also reached a compromise on a bill that allows a person to be charged with two criminal counts if they assault or kill a pregnant woman ... one count for the woman and one count for her unborn child. The compromise bill will still cover pregnancies from conception to birth. But, it now includes language stating the legislation cannot be used to prosecute legal abortions or against a woman who has a miscarriage. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill on a unanimous vote and sent it to the Senate, where it's expected to pass next week.
