Montgomery AL – Next year's education budget is now officially finished after lawmakers on Wednesday voted to override a veto by Governor Bob Riley. Riley vetoed the 6-billion dollar budget because he wanted a tax cut that was part of the budget to be changed to benefit all Alabamians. Riley asked the House and Senate to reduce the budget by 60 million dollars to cover his proposed tax cut plan. But that request was rejected. The House overrode Riley's veto 89 to 10. The Senate voted 26 to nine against the veto. The education budget will take effect on October first.
